With Fall right around the corner, I know you all are getting ready for bonfires, apple picking, haunted houses, and hopefully some Fall road trips. Autumn is probably my favorite time of year to take a road trip. The air gets cooler, the leaves change color, and crops are harvested. Everything about the Fall season makes me want to go on an adventure.

Whether you are planning an extensive road trip, a weekend getaway, or a day trip to some spooky locale, you will need something to listen to in the car as you go.

As an introvert, road trips are a great travel option that avoids the crowds of airplanes and other forms of public transportation. Having the best music, audiobooks and podcasts to listen to make the whole experience that much more enjoyable. Fall is when nature does a hard reset, sending leaves to the ground and bringing about stories of hauntings and more.

As I put together a spooky playlist to get into the spirit of the season, I decided to include more than just music, but audio books and podcasts as well. If you want the best spooky playlist for all your Fall travels, I am here to provide.

As always, if you have anything to add, I want to know! The great thing about a playlist is that it is always growing and changing. Keep on scrolling to find some great spooky playlist suggestions!

Are you getting ready to go on a road trip this Fall? Let this spooky playlist keep you company on your journey. This playlist includes music, audio books, and podcasts, so you will be more than ready for a haunted good time! #spookyroadtrip #roadtrip #playlist #spooky #quietgirlloudworld

Audiobooks for The Fall

I love a good audiobook for longer road trips. When music just isn’t doing it for me, I switch over to a good book. I have a few recommendations that I know and a few that I am anticipating. I also love to receive suggestions, so if there is a good spooky audiobook that you love, let me know!

Harry Potter series – J.K. Rowling – Narration by Jim Dale

While I have read the books, I have not fully listened to all the audiobooks. All I can say is Jim Dale does a fantastic job of narrating the books and takes you through the wizarding world in the best way possible. Whether you know the books or not, you will not be disappointed on a road trip with this playing in the background.

The Bazaar of Bad Dreams – Stephen King – Narrated by Stephen King, Dylan Baker, Brooke Bloom, Hope Davis, Kathleen Chalfant, Santino Fontana, Peter Friedman

This collection of short stories by Stephen King are the perfect road trip companion. With multiple narrators, these stories will keep you enthralled as you drive from one place to the next. King is a master of horror and character building, so you know these stories are going to be good.

You can find the audio version of Bazaar of Bad Dreams through Audible.

The Raven Cycle series – Maggie Stiefvater – Narrated by Will Patton

This YA urban fantasy series is full of mystery and magic. While the story is a little slow to start, once you get to know the characters you will be fully committed to the storyline. The books follow a young girl, Blue, and four boys, Gansey, Adam, Ronin, and Noah. Blue is trying to escape a prophecy, while Gansey is on a quest that leads them all into a paranormal world full of magic and intrigue. The books are set in a small town in West Virginia, and the narrator’s Southern drawl matches what you would imagine the characters to sound like.

Ninth House – Leigh Bardugo – Narrated by Lauren Fortgang, Michael David Axtell

Leigh Bardugo’s book Ninth House comes out on October 8, 2019, and I honestly cannot wait. I fell in love with her writing with the Grisha Trilogy, and this book is something completely different. Think murder, secret societies, and forbidden magic set at Yale University. I am so ready.

Download Ninth House on Audible.

The Vine Witch – Luanne G. Smith – Narrated by Susannah Jones

This book is set to be released on October 1, 2019. The premise of The Vine Witch caught my attention immediately. Witches who keep vineyards alive with magic? Sign me up. Wine and witches spell this season. Also, a handsome stranger is in the official summary, which to me means some romance will be included. This is everything your spooky fall road trip needs.

Spooky Podcasts to Keep it Creepy

When I’m not feeling a full book, I like to switch over to podcasts. There are so many great spooky ones to choose from! Some of my favorites and most anticipated are listed below.

Lore – Aaron Mahnke

This podcast is by far my favorite. As a person who lives for folklore and dark stories, this podcast is perfect. His stories are extra chilling to listen to while driving at night. I have had to turn them off because I was getting too creeped out before. Mahnke has two other podcasts called Cabinet of Curiosities and Unobscured. I have yet to listen to them, but I look forward to them both!

You can find Lore Podcast here.

Welcome to Night Vale

This podcast is read in the style of community updates from different people and authority figures of the fictional town Night Vale. The updates start out as kind of weird and grow in obscurity. You won’t know whether to be creeped out or utterly intrigued. As you listen, you grow more and more familiar with the characters and you will find yourself looking forward to each update.

The Apex & The Abyss

If you enjoy true crime podcasts, you will enjoy The Apex & The Abyss. The dark tone of these true stories will have you hooked and wondering what kind of world we live in and why bad things happen. Each episode is well researched and told in a way that holds your attention while also kind of scaring you.

Start following these true crime podcasts here.

Unexplained – Richard McClain-Smith

The podcast Unexplained is about, well, all things that cannot be explained. Each episode is about a different real event that occurred. The narrator takes a scientific approach to each unexplained case, while also including the supernatural explanation. If you have an interest in the unexplained things in life, this podcast is for you.

Everything is Spooky in the Dark – Wandering Crystal

One of my favorite spooky travel bloggers, Crystal of Wandering Crystal has started a podcast! With the first two episodes set in New Orleans, I am anticipating what is to come next! If Crystal has been to a place, you can bet she knows all about its spooky history. Look forward to this podcast!
